The newly renamed Heritage Festival (formerly the Perham Pioneer Festival) takes place
each year the third weekend in August. Now in its 37th year,
the festival celebrates the first settlers of the area with
folk art demonstrations, re-enactment events, and concerts by Folk and Bluegrass
musicians in a beautiful setting of log buildings on the prairie.
The 2008 festival will feature music by Blue Hazard, the Johnson Family Band, the Uffda Mountain Boys and more performing in the Grand View Ballroom. Clann Tartan will be on site all weekend with fascinating re-enactments of military drills, black powder demonstrations, dancing and more. Folk art demonstrators representing the diverse ethnic heritages of the area will feature weaving, spinning, carving, soap making and more.
Visit the Log Cabins and listen to pioneer women tell what life was like for the first settlers.
Wander through the primitive camp of the nearby Black Powder
Mountaineers Rendezvous. On Sunday, join others for an old-fashioned community photo to help celebrate Minnesota's 150th anniversary following by polka and old-time music with the Kathy Erickson band.
